Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG) last year saved 16,000 tons of plastic via new bottle designs and manufacturing processes, according to the company’s first-ever sustainability report. Over the past three years, the company has saved 74 million pounds of plastic solely by marketing lighter-weight Aquafina bottles. PBG has introduced lighter-weight delivery that are 11% more fuel efficient. PBG now recycles an estimated 83% of its waste stream.

Nokia plans to launch 40 phones with biodegradable phone covers, recyclable battery designs that use less harmful toxic materials and energy efficient accessories. Nokia has already eliminated the use of PVC (polyvinyl chloride).

HP - Reducing Laptop Packaging 97% (on Wal-Mart request)

HP developed the packaging concept after Wal-Mart challenged electronics suppliers to submit product ideas focused on design to attract customers, innovation that reduces environmental impact and packaging that encourages reduced materials, reuse and recycling.
