EcoSmart, Hanes new line of products made with recycled content
How to transform waste into an opportunity? Hanes launched EcoSmart men’s black athletic socks, which contain at least 55 percent recycled cotton, coming from Hanes’ manufacturing process excess cotton.
Another great thing are the sweatshirts and sweatpants made of “EcoSmart polyester fiber“, produced from recycled plastic bottles. Each item contains 5 percent EcoSmart polyester.
Hanes target is to recycle about 608 million plastic bottles in 2010!
Nike “Reuse A Shoe” brings old shoes back to life
Since 1990 Nike’s “Reuse A Shoe” scheme collected globally 22.901.931 shoes for recycling.
Nike uses your old pair of athletic shoes, no matter which brand they are, to produce “Nike Grind“, a recycled raw material that can be incorporated into sports surfaces (i.e. tracks, synthetic turf and playground surfaces) or Nike’s products (i.e.did you know that Nike’s “Air Jordan XX3″ utilizes Nike Grind in the sole?).
Among most amazing achievements is the fact that in 2005 the perimeter track of Old Trafford (Manchester United playground) was refurbished using Nike recycled shoes. 150 Nike retail stores in the US have a “Reuse A Shoe” bin, and another 150 bins can be found all over the world.
